Maranda has been my personal trainer
through about “4 Phases” of my life and I will try to briefly recap
them here.
My whole life I have always been a ‘jogger’. It was approximately 4
years ago I met Maranda at a local gym and I decided that I needed
some professional help in learning about weight resistance training.
Enter Phase one of my life. I had been dubbed a “Cardio Queen” and had
never set foot in the weight lifting area of a gym! At this time I was
also 8 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child and I was continuing running
as I had done with the previous 2 pregnancies. Maranda trained me
through the entire pregnancy – changing and adjusting my weight
training program as my “pregnancy weight” evolved! I have to admit
that I had the easiest delivery on record –maybe 15 minutes from the
time I stepped into the hospital - no drugs, and no labor!! The only
difference from the other 2 pregnancies is that along with my existing
cardio activity I had added Maranda as my personal trainer and she
developed and supervised my weight training program through the entire
pregnancy. So that convinced me that weight resistance training was an
extremely valuable tool for fitness.

Along comes Phase 2 – I needed to get back into shape after the
pregnancy – the fun post partum time. I started back with Maranda as
soon as I was medically allowed to and within several weeks I was back
into my pre-pregnancy jeans and continuing to tone back into shape. I
kept training like this for about a year in which I can classify it as
my Phase 3 – the recreational phase. Maranda kept my programs fun as
well as challenging.
When the World’s Masters Games came to be held in Edmonton in 2005 – I
decided that I could maybe “raise the bar” and tackle a training
regime that would allow me to run a 800m and a 1500 m race…hence,
“Phase 4,” the competitive side. I had never competed in anything
fitness related before – everything I did was either for recreation or
fitness maintenance. Thus my training with Maranda took a more serious
twist. At this time I had also acquired a running coach, Tom, who
actually taught me how to “run”. With Maranda supervising my weight
training and nutrition and with Tom the head of my running program –
and with approximately only a 6 month training time frame – at the
Masters, I was able to shave off 40 seconds on my best 800m time and 1
minute 23 seconds off of the 1500 m. I could personally never have
pulled this off without the expertise of both Maranda and Tom. I am
currently still in “phase 4” and looking to compete at the World
Master’s Games in Sydney, Australia in 2009.
I continue to train with Maranda. I am
also training with Tom as well as helping him with coaching the Red
Deer Titans Track club. No matter what your goals are – whether you
are just starting out and getting off the couch, or are in need of
additional nutrition guidance and weight training programs or are
looking for a more competitive edge – I would highly recommend Maranda
as a personal trainer.
She certainly can work from wherever
your current fitness level is at and if you are willing to commit to
“do the time and put in the effort” – her programs, inspiration and
guidance will help you to achieve your goals!
